NCI Data Commons Framework Services
NCI Data Commons Framework Services (DCFS) are an instance of Gen3 operated by the University of Chicago's Center for Translational Data Science. DCFS collaborates and connects with all parts of the Cancer Research Data Commons (CRDC) to enhance opportunities for cancer research with the services mentioned below. Learn more about DCFS and Gen3 here.
Object Identifier
Indexd provides permanent data GUIDs (globally unique IDs) for data objects. The service tracks the physical locations and hash of every file in the data node object storage.AuthN/AuthZ
Fence & Arborist provide authentication and authorization services via Researcher Auth Service (RAS) and dbGaP. These services are OIDC compliant.APIs
All of the Gen3 services support powerful APIs which allow them to interact with each other, CRDC partners, and external users. These APIs enable extensible application development for future services and users.NCI DCFS Users
NCI DCFS users include researchers who build apps and tools (Developers), NCI Data Nodes, and NCI Cloud Resources.
Developers
Developers can contribute to open source code and build applications and tools over NCI DCFS APIs to catalyze science within the Cancer Research Data Commons (CRDC).NCI Data Nodes
DCFS indexes cancer data objects in the NCI Data Nodes. Data Nodes and DCFS work together to control data access and make data accessible by NCI Cloud Resources.NCI Cloud Resources
Cloud Resources connect users to Data Nodes using DCFS open APIs. DCFS and the Cloud Resources work together to secure access to all accessed data.NCI-CRDC Partners
DCFS, powered by Gen3, is just one system funded by National Cancer Institute (NCI) to explore how varied datasets can be accessed in a secure and scalable manner. DCFS makes it possible to interoperate with data commons and share data within a data ecosystem. DCFS works with current and future data nodes and the three Cloud Resources funded by NCI to achieve the goal of building a data commons ecosystem in cancer research.
